Chinese regulatory documents discovered earlier this week revealed that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max will have a significantly larger battery than its predecessor, which also suggests longer battery life.
However, this may come at the expense of additional thickness and weight.
Reliable Chinese leaker Ice Universe revealed the details in a post on Weibo.
“The iPhone 18 Pro Max’s 5,500mAh battery weighs 240 grams and has a 9mm thick body,” he wrote.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max is 8.75 mm thick and weighs 233 grams. If Ice Universe’s numbers are correct, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be 0.25mm thicker and 7 grams heavier; The difference is small, but still noticeable, especially on an already fairly large and heavy device.
MacRumors noted that for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max, Apple has reportedly used a new type of stainless steel vapor chamber, which could also make the phone heavier.
Notably, Apple’s largest phone has lost some weight over the years, with the iPhone 14 Pro Max still holding the title of heaviest iPhone ever. It weighs exactly 240 grams, so the iPhone 18 Pro Max may be a draw.

There is no word on the size and weight of the iPhone 18 Pro. Its battery will reportedly be only slightly larger than before, so there may not be significant changes in thickness and weight either.
