A 70-year-old man, left without a place to stay, has been sleeping at bus stops and roadsides for the past three years.

Mahalingam Mahalingam

This is the sob story of an elderly man named Mahalingam from Tamil Nadu who was abandoned on the street by his own son. A 70-year-old man who returned to his home under police protection after a three-year legal battle has an important life lesson to share with his parents.

Mahalingam, a native of Thiruvottiyur, Chennai and a resident of Thiruvalluvar Nagar, Manali, says, “Please do not be in a hurry to bequeath your property to your children during your lifetime.”

A loving gift; In the end it turned out to be a disaster

Mahalingam, who was an employee of a private company, bought a 12,000 square feet plot of land in Manali with his life’s hard earned money and built a house on it. Wanting to secure the future of his children, he divided the property equally between his son and daughter. Part of the house where he lived was in the name of his own granddaughter.

But this one act turned his life into hell. Angry that he did not get all the property, Vijayakumar’s son started a quarrel with his father. Having overcome all limits of cruelty, Vijayakumar drove his own father out of the house. The family dog was released and bit him.

Mahalingam, who had nowhere to sleep, had been sleeping at bus stops and roadsides for the past three years. For several days he also sought refuge in the house of his married daughter’s husband.

According to Mahalinga:

“I am a living warning to all of you. I made a big mistake in my life and gave my property to my children. Therefore, I lived in hell on the street for three years without normal food or drinking water.

When I approached government officials for help, my son refused to obey the orders of the Income Tax Officer and the District Collector. When I finally returned home with the High Court order and the police, my son unleashed the family dog and bit me viciously.

After I approached the District Collector again and pleaded with him, he gave strict instructions to the police to bring me safely to his house. Even when the police came with me, my son and family did not let me in easily; There was a lot of abuse and failure. Finally, it was only with the strong support of the police department that I was able to enter my home today. I am forever indebted to the police.”

Message for Parents

Police eventually allowed Mahalinga into his home safely after his son’s violent protests and screams. Mahalingam doesn’t want other parents to have to fight for their dignity like this.

This is what he has to say to society: Protect your freedom and keep your hard earned money in your name. Before you make room for others to relax, make sure you have a secure roof over your head!
