New Delhi: The Election Commission has asked parents to provide their parents’ SIR information to add their name to the new voters’ list. This applies to new voters and those not included in the voter list after SIR. The Election Commission has directed that this information should also be provided while filling Form 6 for inclusion in the voters’ list. You will not be able to proceed to the next step without completing this application. The commission said this has already been implemented in Bihar.

This helps in accurate matching of voters and reduces the number of documents that new voters have to submit along with their application, PTI reported, citing commission officials. The commission also said it aims to eliminate double voting, migrants and foreigners.

Responding to allegations of widespread exclusion of certain categories from the lists, Commission officials said voters were given ample opportunity to question exclusions from the lists and that there was no bias.

Content Highlights: Mandatory submission of parents’ SIR details for new voter registration. Required for all new applicants and those not on the updated list. Form 6 now includes a mandatory declaration step. The goal is to reduce paperwork and eliminate duplicate or fraudulent voters. Ensures transparency and accuracy in election mapping.
