A few weeks after the release of the film, Ahmed Khan spoke about the budget of the film and clearly said that the budget is not Rs 200-250 crore, but much less.
“Rs 110 crore film”
Ahmed Khan revealed that he made the entire film for just Rs 110 crore and after adding print and advertising (P&A), the total cost of the film was around Rs 125 crore. He said, “I completed the film for Rs 110 crore.” After adding P&A, the total budget was Rs 125 crore. If filming days were to increase, costs would quickly rise as well.
In a conversation with Screen, the director revealed that despite such a huge star cast, the film’s shooting was completed in just 75 days. According to him, if the shoot increases by even a day, not only the artists’ fees increase, but also the budget for catering, daily expenses, processing, editing and background score. The real acting happens during filming.
Rumors spread in the name of the budget
Ahmed Khan said that around 900 people were present on the set for many days. This included a team of artists and their collaborators. Not only that, but sometimes there were 50 beauty vans parked on set. Despite this, he kept the budget under control and completed the film within the stipulated time frame.
Reacting to the news about the film’s budget, Ahmed Khan said, “I have heard people saying that the film’s budget is Rs 200-250 crore. After all, how can you say such a thing? What’s the point of spending 36 years in the industry if I spent so much money?
He went on to say that it is not a visual effects heavy superhero film but a simple entertainment film. Just because there is a big star cast doesn’t mean the film’s budget will touch the sky.
All costs were paid before release
Making the most interesting discovery, Ahmed Khan said that the film has already recouped its entire cost even before its release. He said: Our entire budget from satellite, digital and music rights was recouped before release. On paper, the film is already a hit. Now the box office is in plain sight for everyone to see. My producers laugh all the way to the bank. This is a very real success.
After these revelations from Ahmed Khan, it is clear that Welcome to the Jungle has turned out to be a good deal for the makers not only at the box office but also in business.
