Offer above market value

The transfer poker between Champions League participants Stuttgart and relegated Wolfsburg around Dzenan Pejcinovic (21) moves into the next round. According to Sky, the Swabians have increased their offer for the German U21 international but remain well below the €25 million Lower Saxony are asking for their top scorer. Accordingly, VfB is reported to have improved its offer by €2-20 million – the transfer fee could increase even further thanks to bonus payments.

Everything should be clear between VfB and the Munich native (contract until 2030), things are entering a hot phase with the Wolves. Stuttgart sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth recently confirmed his interest in Pejcinovic to the Zeitungsverlag Waiblingen, but did not want to comment in detail: “The player has a contract with Wolfsburg. Therefore, now is not the time to talk about a move to Stuttgart. “He is preparing for the VfL and at the moment I have nothing more to say.”
Will Pejcinovic come? Stuttgart only paid twice as much
A week later, the next offer appears to have come from the Swabians, who have only twice in their club’s history topped the 20 million mark for a new player, also a centre-forward. Deniz Undava’s permanent move from Brighton in 2024 cost VfB €27.4 million including loan fees, while in the same summer they paid Augsburg €23 million for Ermedin Demirović. For Pejcinovic, the transfer should be attractive not only from a sporting point of view, but also from a financial point of view. With the Swabians he could compete in the Champions League rather than the 2nd League, and his VFL contract, which runs until 2029, dates from a time when his market value was just one million euros. He signed in June 2024 before going on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
Today, Pejčinović is one of the ten most valuable German center forwards with a market value of €15 million. In the under-21 age group, only Nicolo Tresoldi has a higher market value at €25 million and he will be in the hunt for goals again with Club Brugge in the Champions League. If the in-demand striker remains in Wolfsburg, his season will begin on August 8th with a home game against 1st FC Kaiserslautern – and thus he will be far from the premier class.
In the rumor mill, VFL fan “DoppelWobber” writes: “We need a foundation early on. If a club comes in mid-August and offers 30 million for Dzenana, it will be difficult to integrate a successor into the new system. Thanks to VW, we can take the risk and already have a squad for the new season, even if there are still many candidates to leave. The way Pejcinovic is being looked after, it would be extremely careless to approach the adaptation.” the current system is for him.”
