On Wednesday, the Lower Mainland will celebrate Canada Day, the country’s 159th birthday.
Many events in Metro Vancouver will include fireworks, live music, food trucks, citizenship ceremonies and other fun events.
The flagship event in the Lower Mainland will take place in Canada Place in downtown Vancouver called Canada Together 2026.
Organizers say guests will enjoy all-day family fun with live music on multiple stages, an Indigenous market, performers and food vendors.
The highlight will be the ceremony for immigrants to receive their citizenship documents.
The event will start at 11:00 and last until 18:00.
Close to the city center, people can flock to Granville Island enjoy the annual False Creek Ferries water ballet and other performances by Vancouver International Jazz Festival artists.
Visitors can join in the giant cake cutting action and watch World Cup matches on the big screen.
Traveling east Burnaby StreetFest on Central opens at 6:30 p.m. with several musical performances and a large fireworks display at 10:15 p.m.
Visitors New WestminsterThe Canada Day celebration features food vendors, a beer garden, a children’s area, Bubble Soccer and live music. The celebration will end with a drone show at 10 p.m.
Crossing the Fraser River in RichmondAffectionately known as Canada’s Biggest Little Birthday Party, the Steveston Salmon Festival is one of the largest non-profit Canada Day celebrations in the country.
Coordinator Mary-Anne Pizzinato told 1130 NewsRadio the festival features a full lineup of bands, including a well-known Canadian headliner.
“We have our final act, and it’s Barney Bentall and Legendary Hearts. So, they’ll start performing at 6:15 p.m. We’re really excited about that.”
She recommends visitors get there early.
“About 8am please come and have a pancake breakfast at our Steveston Rotary. At 9:30am we will have a children’s bike parade which will be fun and at 10am we will start our regular parade.”
She adds that foodies won’t want to miss the iconic salmon casserole.
“We’ll start serving it at 11 a.m. Last year we sold out in record time. We sold 3,000 dishes by 12:30 p.m. So if you want salmon, get there early.”
Richmond will also host the 10th anniversary of Drumming Day in Canada. Celebrate Canada Day with a free multicultural celebration featuring First Nations people and more than 150 performers, including multicultural drumming, dragon and lion dances, martial arts and cultural performances.
At 11:30 a.m., participants will join 13 Canada Day drumming events in British Columbia and more than 40 communities across Canada for six minutes of simultaneous drumming that will be broadcast live across the country.
Free commemorative rattles will be given out to the public on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. 10:30am to 12:30pm, Lansdowne Center North West car park, Richmond.
Surrey The main event will take place at the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheater with live music led by Josh Ross and fireworks at 10:15 p.m.
With rides in the amphitheater, the event will be fun for both young and old.
Activities for children include a family area, a children’s art area and a toddler town, while adults can spend time in the beer garden.
White Rock are organizing another event to celebrate Canada Day by the Bay on July 1st. Bad Medicine, a Bon Jovi tribute band, will headline the event at 8:30 p.m., while country singer Antonio LaRosa will open at 7 p.m.
This year the festival has a children’s and football zone. Fireworks will start at 10:15 p.m.
Delta will celebrate Canada’s birthday with live music, dance and cultural performances, giant games and interactive activities, and a fireworks display at the end.
The event will take place in Chalmers Park and will start at 16:00.
Town Langley will celebrate Canada Day at McLeod Sports Park, with doors opening at 11 a.m. and closing after fireworks at 10 p.m.
Organizers say visitors will be able to enjoy rides, main stage entertainment, a car show, a dog show and pony rides.
On North ShoreIn North Vancouver, celebrations will take place at the shipyards, along with a FIFA Watch party, and in West Vancouver, at John Lawson Park.
CoquitlamThe celebration starts in the city park at noon.
As with many Canada Day events, people can enjoy live music on two stages, food vendors and a fireworks display starting at 10 p.m.
The event will also feature a photo booth, mini golf, soccer, hockey and soccer.
Port Coquitlam Canada Day will take place in Castle Park starting at 8:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Port Coquitlam Community Center.
Live music will be performed by April Wein and Owen Rigling, among others.
The city will also host a fishing derby at Lions Park from 8 to 11 a.m.
Canada Day Pitt Meadows will be celebrated at šxʷhék̓ʷnəs (Spirit Square) from 9:00 to 14:00.
Among the craft alley, dog show and children’s area, the highlight will be the watermelon eating contest in front of the stage.
Maple RidgeThe Canada Day celebration will take place from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the city’s Peace Memorial Park and will include live entertainment, cultural performances, family activities, food trucks, a licensed beverage area and World Cup celebrations.
Abbotsford The celebration begins with a parade at 11 a.m. and festivities begin at 1 p.m. at the city’s Exhibition Park.
Visitors can expect food trucks, live music, artisan vendors, a dog show and more. Fireworks will start at 22:00.
