Where is Savannah Guthrie? The "Today" host is absent from several shows.

The news never stops, but Savannah Guthrie is taking a break from the Today show.

The Emmy Award-winning television journalist was absent from the morning talk show for two consecutive episodes this week.

Guthrie, who returned to “Today” in April following the disappearance of her mother Nancy Guthrie, was last seen on air on Tuesday, July 7. Sheinelle Jones, co-host of “Today with Jenna and Sheinelle,” performed her cover on Wednesday’s show alongside Craig Melvin, and fellow “Today” host Laura Jarrett took her place on Thursday, July 9.

The reason for Guthrie’s absence from either show was not disclosed. USA TODAY has reached out to Guthrie’s representatives for comment.

Savannah Guthrie visits

Savannah Guthrie attends the book launch of “It’s Mostly What God Does” in New York City on February 21, 2024.

This isn’t the first time Guthrie has taken a break from Studio 1A.

In June, the longtime “Today” host missed an episode because she was “starting production meetings on the game show Wordle coming to NBC later this year,” Melvin explained at the time. In May, Guthrie was announced as the host of an upcoming series based on the popular word game from The New York Times Games.

Guthrie surprised viewers on Tuesday by completely changing her outfit midway through the show.

During the PopStart segment, she noted that she didn’t get the memo when Jones, Jenna Bush Hager and Dylan Dreyer were all wearing yellow while Guthrie was alone in blue. Even co-host Melvin got into the color scheme with his yellow and blue striped tie.

“Did you guys really have a note? I’m changing my clothes! she told the others, realizing that she was a stranger.

And so without hesitation, Guthrie opted for a new look during the commercial break, donning a bright yellow plaid dress and turning heads when the episode returned. “I have changed, girls! I wanted to be with my ladies,” Guthrie said.

Savannah Guthrie’s return to the Today show comes after her mother’s disappearance

Guthrie, 54, abruptly quit the “Today” show in February following the disappearance of her mother, Nancy Guthrie, who was reported missing after an apparent abduction from her Arizona home.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Jan. 31 in her Catalina Foothills neighborhood, just north of Tucson. In February, the FBI released images showing an armed man at Nancy’s front door tampering with a camera before she disappeared, but the suspect in the images was not identified.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the disappearance of an elderly woman as authorities believe she was taken from her home against her will. Guthrie’s family has offered a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her recovery.

The search continues for Nancy Guthrie and the man suspected of abducting her.

The “Today” show host spoke candidly about the emotional toll of her mother’s disappearance in a July 1 statement to Tucson CBS affiliate KOLD-TV.

“This is five months of agony and endless trauma for our family,” Guthrie said. “Not a minute goes by that we are not actively trying to find our mother. We thank the people of Tucson for keeping her in their hearts and the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Office for their tireless work on behalf of our family. Bring her home.”
