Bergvall, who joined Spurs from Swedish club Djurgardens in 2024, played limited minutes under De Zerbi at the end of last season.
The 20-year-old started the Italian’s first game in charge, a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland, and has since made four appearances as a substitute.
Spurs have since signed midfielders Sandro Tonali – in a £100m deal from Newcastle United – and Mateus Fernandes for £85m from West Ham.
“I haven’t talked to Lucas yet,” De Zerbi said. “I will do this in the coming days and we will easily make the best decision for the club, for Lucas, for me, for each of us. Lucas is a great, great talent.”
“There will be a lot of competition because at the end I think we will have two players for each position.
“If he wants to stay, I will be glad. Otherwise we will have to look for a new solution with (sporting director) Johan Lange and (CEO) Vinay (Venkatesham). It’s none of my business after deciding to leave.”
Tottenham have also added defenders Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to their ranks, and De Zerbi says the “goal is now to complete the attacking positions”.
“First of all, I think our transfer window is not over yet,” he added. “We have to finish, we need to bring in a couple more, maybe more, maybe not less, but a couple more players.”
Bergvall is part of Tottenham’s squad in New Zealand, but strikers Mohamed Kudus (thigh) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) did not travel as they recover from long-term injuries.
“Kudus is very close. I think when we return to London he will be ready to start working with us,” De Zerbi said. “It’s great for us. Kudus is another important player.
“We will see Kulusevski in the next couple of weeks. He’s another important player. After one season, one full season, without games, we have to analyze better and better, not take risks, first of all for his sake, and then for ours.”
Meanwhile, Spurs attacking midfielder Xavi Simons said “the first four days were the worst days of my life” as he recalled the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in April.
The Netherlands international required surgery for a serious knee injury and missed the 2026 World Cup.
“I couldn’t sleep and didn’t eat for a week,” he told the Tottenham website. “I was in a lot of pain. I was vomiting and dizzy, that was all. This pain, I don’t want anyone to go through this pain.”
“I don’t know what it’s like for other players, but for me it was like my whole body was saying, ‘What happened?’
“That’s what it is. I’m happy and in a good place now.”
