The victim is a 26-year-old man from this municipality. He was found unconscious on the side of Church Street following a 911 call at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
“A suspect has been arrested in connection with this case and is scheduled to appear via videoconference this evening,” said Sergeant Frédéric Deshaies, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The suspect, a 33-year-old man, was detained shortly after police arrived.
The victim had signs of bodily injuries, the nature of which was not immediately specified.
“Investigations have established that there was a relationship between the victim and the suspect. At this stage, there is nothing to indicate that the victim was randomly selected,” an SQ spokesman said.
The investigation was entrusted to the personal crimes unit of the Quebec Security Service, which continues to work on the case.
“To complete the collection of data, it is still necessary to meet with several people (…) At this stage, the investigation is focused on only one suspect,” said Sergeant Deshaies.
The Sûreté du Québec’s investigation continues.
