Sunday’s opponents are a side Worcestershire know all too well, having faced the South West side just two weeks ago, putting in one of their most complete performances to date in the Blast and securing a convincing 36-run win.
However, the frantic nature of the group stage has meant that a lot has changed for both teams since then, with Somerset’s win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks on Friday taking them ahead of the Rapids on net.
While other results may play a decisive role in the final result, the equation for the visitors on Sunday is clear; victory or defeat.
Given the deficit between the teams, a loss to Worcestershire would mean the end of their competition – a scenario Lategan said the Rapids were prepared for.
“It’s been a pretty crazy couple of weeks for the boys, even though it’s all unfolded day by day with teams playing at different times and in different groups, and while we’re aware of that scenario, it’s just another game where we know we have to be on top.
“We have plans that we stick to and everyone knows their role clearly, but at the end of the day it’s the one who will show up on the day and perform.
“We back our ability and our skill set and if we perform on Sunday we will put ourselves in a good position.
“Under the lights and in front of a packed house, it should be very exciting!”
