Wrexham’s story under Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mack begins a new chapter on Wednesday night.
Wrexham Women make their European debut when they take on Armenia’s Pyunik in the first qualifying round semi-final at the historic Hippodrome Stadium.
The development of women’s football was one of the plans announced by the owners when they took control of the North Wales club at the start of 2021.
And they share the European’s excitement as much as head coach Jenny Sugarman and her team.
“They’re both incredibly excited,” Sugarman said.
“I had messages with Rob the other day. Rob is actively working to reach out to the base and make sure we have what we need.
“They have publicly stated that they want to support this women’s team to become the best in the world.
“This is a big ambition and we have a long way to go, but we feel we are taking the right first steps.
“They are very excited about the team and the roster we are building.
“They see the players we bring in and realize the caliber of players we can now bring in, recruit and recruit.
“They’re delighted about it and obviously excited about the Champions League and Wrexham getting back into Europe.”
If Wrexham beat Pyunik in the semi-final, they will face Northern Ireland’s Glentoran or Latvia’s Riga in the final on July 25, also at the Hippodrome.
This will be Wrexham’s first women’s campaign in Europe after they lifted the Genero Adran Premier for the first time last season.
