There has been a lot of conflicting information surrounding Cutie Romero this summer. Is he leaving Tottenham Hotspur? Does he stay and participate in the project? How much can Spurs get for their current club captain? The latest information comes from Fabrizio Romano (sigh), who reports that Cuti is expected to leave Tottenham this summer, with clubs currently eyeing him including Inter Milan and Barcelona.
The Inter rumors are both interesting and quite funny, especially since Inter are a broke company and I seriously doubt they will be able to afford anything close to what Cuti would cost. Spurs are now likely to sell him for less than what they charge a Premier League club, and for good reason – with the amount of stupid money floating around in the Premier League this summer, there’s no good reason to sell him to a rival for anything less and stupid money. I mean, if Luka Vuskovic is worth £50 million in this market, what is one of the best defenders in the league and a World Cup winning team supposed to do?
In fact, the only way I can see Inter buying Cuti this summer is if he really doesn’t have a market and that would drive the price down, but I still can’t see him buying for less than £40-45 million. Spurs are likely eyeing him and are likely hoping Barcelona will make their (supposed) interest more concrete.
It looks like Cootie will be heading off to pastures new this summer and fans will no doubt have differing opinions on the matter. Those who have fallen out of love with the big galota will celebrate. People like me who think Coutee is being unfairly judged and getting a ton of undeserved sticks while still being a great defender will likely be disappointed.
But a moderate to large sale of Cutie will help offset some of Spurs’ big spending in the transfer window this summer and perhaps free up more funds for another exciting signing.
