In mid-May, Boston Celtics beat writer John Karalis mentioned 27-year-old guard Anfernee Simons among the team’s possible free agent targets.
NBA insiders Jake Fisher and Marc Stein reported Tuesday that the Celtics will indeed be among three teams expected to show interest in the former Boston guard once free agency opens Tuesday night.
The report from Fisher and Stein also states that the Chicago Bulls (Simons’ current team) and the Golden State Warriors are interested in the 2018 draft pick.
Simons spent the first seven years of his career with the Portland Trail Blazers before being traded to the Celtics for Jrue Holiday last July.
The former averaged 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 24.5 minutes per game in 49 games off the bench while hitting .440/.395/.889 for Boston.
The Celtics sent Simons to the Bulls ahead of the 2026 NBA trade deadline, landing them center Nikola Vucevic.
Simons was limited to just six games with Chicago after his February deal due to injury.
