‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ Star Officially Addresses Wild Comparisons to ‘GTA 6’ [Exclusive]

Arthur Morgan Meets Jason: Roger Clark on the GTA VI Comparisons Fans Are Making

Arthur Morgan has been on players’ minds for years, so it is hardly surprising that fans are looking for traces of him in Rockstar Games’ next leading man. Jason, one of the protagonists of Grand Theft Auto VI, has drawn comparisons to Arthur as players scrutinize the game’s trailers. Some fans have also compared Jason and Lucia’s relationship to Arthur and Mary’s, even though there is still plenty about the new story we have not seen.

Those comparisons made their way to Roger Clark at a Red Dead Redemption panel at FanX Salt Lake Comic & Pop Culture Convention alongside John Marston actor Rob Wiethoff. Clark spent years bringing Arthur to life in Red Dead Redemption 2. When Collider’s Maggie Lovitt asked what it feels like to see fans searching for echoes of the character in Rockstar’s next game, his answer was appreciative, but he was careful about how much anyone could conclude from the trailers.

Fans Are Drawing Striking Parallels Between Arthur Morgan and Jason

“Obviously there are going to be comparisons because it’s Rockstar’s next game,” Clark said. He acknowledged that he could see why some people have noticed a facial resemblance between the characters. As for whether Jason and Arthur have anything deeper in common, Clark said, “It’s hard to say until we actually get a go at it.”

Clark said the comparisons are a compliment to the character he played, even if he is not ready to draw conclusions about Jason. “We have very limited information, but the trailers look amazing,” he said. He added that he expects Rockstar to “knock it out of the park again,” making it clear he is looking forward to playing the game himself. The follow-up was asking whether either actor would appear in Grand Theft Auto VI, to which Clark said he is not in it “to my knowledge,” then immediately joked that he would give the same answer even if he were. It was a playful response, not a cameo announcement or a definitive denial, so fans hoping to spot a familiar voice will have to keep waiting.

Roger Clark’s Genuine Respect for Rockstar’s Next Chapter

For now, Clark’s take is close to where players are: he can see why the trailers have sparked the conversation, but he wants to meet Jason in the game before deciding what the comparison amounts to. Whether the resemblance goes beyond a first impression is something Grand Theft Auto VI itself will have to answer when it releases.

Pick your name, your gun, your horse and how you spend a night in town, and we will tell you which legend of the Old West you would have been. No Name(Dollars Trilogy)

Doc Holliday(Tombstone)

03

What are you riding?
A hero and their horse is one of the oldest relationships in cinema.

The saloon is where these films quietly tell you who somebody really is.

What is the one thing you will not do out here?
The code is about the only thing west of the river that actually holds.

08

The job is finished. Where does the story leave you?
Eight questions in, this is the one that decides your icon.

The Dust Has Settled
Your Western Icon Is…

Four icons and four completely different ways of walking into trouble. This is the one you would have been out there, why it fits, and what it would have cost you.

The Dollars Trilogy · 1964–1966

The Man With No Name

You have never explained yourself and you have never needed to, because people work out fairly quickly that you are the most capable person in the room without you ever having to mention it.

  • Eastwood built the character out of everything he refused to do, stripping away the backstory, the speeches and every bit of reassurance until only the competence was left.
  • You keep your own counsel, and while other people occasionally find that unnerving, you have never felt any real need to fix it for them.
  • The Dollars films work because he genuinely is in it for himself right up until the moment he is not, and he never explains that part either.
  • You would be gone before anybody got a chance to thank you.

Doc Holliday · Tombstone · 1993

Doc Holliday

You are the funniest person in most rooms and the most loyal person in all of them, and you would be genuinely insulted if somebody suggested those two things were in any tension.

  • Doc has no real reason to be in this fight beyond the fact that his friend is in it, which is the only reason he has ever needed for anything.
  • You lead with wit, and it does a very effective job of hiding how seriously you take the handful of people you actually care about.
  • Val Kilmer’s performance is the most quoted in the entire genre because the jokes keep getting sharper as the situation gets worse.
  • You would spend everything you had on this and still describe it as a good week.

Wyatt Earp · Tombstone · 1993

Wyatt Earp

You never wanted this job, and you took it anyway because the alternative was standing there watching somebody less careful do it badly, which is the most Western reason there has ever been.

  • Earp is the reluctant authority figure, a man who came to town specifically to be left alone and somehow ended up answerable for all of it.
  • You are protective by instinct, so when something goes wrong your first thought is who is exposed rather than who is to blame.
  • These films understand that keeping order costs far more than breaking it, and that the person holding the line almost never gets thanked.
  • You would do the whole thing again, and you would complain about it the entire time.

Mattie Ross · True Grit · 1969 & 2010

Mattie Ross

Nobody has ever successfully talked you out of something you had already decided was right, and a long line of grown adults has found that out the hard way.

  • Mattie is the most relentless character in the Western canon and she manages it through argument, paperwork and flat refusal rather than a fast draw.
  • You have no patience for being managed, so you negotiate, you check the details and you turn up exactly when you said you would.
  • True Grit is the rare Western where the moral centre is the youngest person on screen and every adult around her has to catch up.
  • You would get what you came for, and the film is honest about what that takes out of you.

Looking Ahead: What Fans Can Expect from GTA VI

The conversation around Jason and Arthur Morgan highlights a broader cultural moment. Grand Theft Auto VI is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated video game releases in history, and every detail released so far has fueled intense discussion online. Roger Clark’s measured response captures the excitement and restraint that both fans and actors are navigating: appreciate the comparisons as flattery, but let the game speak for itself.

Clark’s own journey with Arthur Morgan across Red Dead Redemption 2 gave him a unique perspective on what Rockstar’s storytelling can achieve. His confidence that Rockstar will “knock it out of the park again” speaks to the trust built over years of exceptional games, and his playful deflection about a potential cameo keeps fans guessing without making promises that cannot be kept.

As November 19, 2026 approaches, expect more trailers, more comparisons, and more questions about how Jason and Lucia will stack up against the legends players already love. For now, Clark’s message is clear: enjoy the anticipation, take the quiz, and let the game do what games do best.

Final Thoughts

The parallels between Arthur Morgan and Jason are natural given that both characters come from Rockstar’s storied playbook of morally complex, deeply human protagonists. Whether Jason shares Arthur’s depth, loyalty, or tragic arc remains to be seen, but the fact that fans are already drawing those connections speaks volumes about the impact Red Dead Redemption 2 had on the gaming landscape. Roger Clark’s gracious response at FanX reminds us that these characters belong to the players as much as to the actors who brought them to life.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026. Stay tuned at Collider for more from FanX and all the latest updates on Rockstar Games’ next blockbuster.
