Princess Victoria turns 49 - and baby Ines celebrates her Victoria Day debut

Every year on July 14, the eyes of all Sweden turn to the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea. The so-called Victoria Day is celebrated there – the birthday of Princess Victoria. What once began as a family birthday celebration has long grown into one of the most important royal events in the country.

The daughter of 80-year-old King Carl Gustaf and 82-year-old Queen Silvia turns 49 this year and, as always, celebrates the occasion with her loved ones.

Princess Victoria begins the celebration with a carriage ride

The Swedish royal family traditionally spends the summer on the island of Öland. Therefore, Princess Victoria’s special day will be celebrated at Solliden Castle, the royal family’s summer residence. Thousands of royal fans flock to the island to congratulate the Crown Princess and catch a glimpse of the royal family. During the day, the birthday boy and his family go outside the castle, where a children’s choir sings a serenade in the presence of those present.

Princess Victoria then rides through Borgholm in a horse-drawn carriage with her husband Prince Daniel, 52, their children Princess Estelle, 14, and Prince Oscar, 10, waving to the crowd.

Evening program – the highlight of Victoria Day

The highlight of Victoria Day is the big evening program at Borgholm Castle. There, the famous Victoria Prize is awarded to a Swedish athlete who has distinguished himself with exceptional achievements. 26-year-old skier Frida Karlsson will receive the award in 2026. Music, dancing and celebrity guests make the gala one of Sweden’s biggest summer events. The event will be broadcast on national television.

This is followed by the Victoria Concert, at which domestic stars give musical performances of the highest class. Princess Victoria, 44-year-old Princess Madeleine and company always sit in the front row and sway to the beat.
