The Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds begin a three-game set Tuesday night.
The Phillies are looking to bounce back from Monday afternoon’s 15-1 loss in Kansas City, while the Reds get some breathing room after beating Baltimore 3-2 on Sunday.
The Reds took two of three games in Philadelphia back in May.
Here are the odds, likely pitchers and predictions for the Phillies vs. Reds game on Tuesday, July 7th.

Phillies vs. Reds Probable Pitchers
- Phillies: Zack Wheeler (8-1, 2.36 ERA)
- Reds: Andrew Abbott (5-4, 3.88 ERA)
Zack Wheeler has allowed more than two runs in a start just three times this season, but one of them came last time against the Pirates. He lasted just 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits at home.
Andrew Abbott has produced some strong starts for Cincinnati. The left-hander rarely goes deep into a game, but also rarely allows more than a few runs.

Best bets on Phillies vs. Reds in MLB
Bet on the best bet on the Reds in MLB
- Andrew Abbott Hits Allowed UNDER 5.5 (-115)
The only thing about the Phillies lineup is that it is susceptible to left-handed pitching. Philadelphia is batting .223 against LHP this season, which ranks near the bottom of the league.
Abbott has allowed LESS than 5.5 hits in 10 of his last 12 starts, including that three-hit outing against the Phillies in May. Philadelphia’s bats have also frozen a bit, with three of their last four games scoring two or fewer runs.
Phillies vs Reds Prediction and Picks
I broke down these picks in SI Betting’s daily best MLB odds column, “Walk-Off Wagers”:
Zack Wheeler is having an All-Star-worthy year, but he wasn’t invited to next week’s game in Philadelphia. He got off to a bad start last time out, allowing four runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings against the Pirates. However, the right-hander dominated the Reds last year, allowing just one home run in a complete game.
Andrew Abbott has also impressed for the Reds. Although the left-hander is not as strong as Wheeler, he usually completes at least five innings, with a few runs on the board at most. That was the case in his Philadelphia start in May, when he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits in 5.1 innings.
Both teams are at an impasse right now, and I expect that to continue tonight in the pitchers’ showdown in Cincinnati.
Selection: UNDER 9 (-115)
