Penfield, NY – Crews battled a large fire at the Bauman Farmers Market and Greenhouses this morning.
The first call came in just after 2 a.m. for a barn fire near Five Mile Line and Plank Roads.
There is no information about the cause of the fire.
The Bauman family told our photojournalist on the scene that the fire had affected the main building of the facility and they believe most of their greenhouses were undamaged. They say no one was hurt.
The intersection of Five Mile Line Road and Plank Road was closed. Plank Road is now open in both directions, and Five Mile Line Road is closed between Plank Road and Seawatch Trail.
The Bauman family posted a statement on social media saying:
Our family suffered a heartbreaking loss this evening as a fire completely destroyed our farmers market.
Our hearts are heavy, but we are incredibly grateful for what matters most; everything is safe.
We want to express our deepest gratitude to the firefighters, EMS, law enforcement and all first responders who responded so quickly and worked tirelessly throughout the night. We are incredibly grateful for your courage, professionalism and dedication.
Webster, West Webster, Penfield, Brighton, Irondequoit, we are also grateful for the overwhelming support, prayers and kind messages we have already received from our community. They mean more to our family than words can express.
