Chorley fraudster who fled UK to Spain faces extradition

Pamela Gwinnett

Earlier this year, Sky News caught up with Gwinnett outside her seaside island apartment.

She denied stealing from the pensioner, who died in November 2022, and told them: “I don’t need to answer these questions. Why the hell did I take the money.”

Gwinnett flew to Tenerife in April 2025, just hours after a court refused to change her bail conditions to allow her to allegedly scatter her brother’s ashes on the island.

Judge Michael Maher sentenced her as if she had been in the courtroom last year.

He said: “To you Joan Green was just a cash cow to be milked until she was dry.

“And so, having infiltrated their lives under the guise of being Joan’s well-meaning friend, you began the long game to isolate and control a vulnerable woman and thereby enrich yourself.

“In my opinion, there was a self-righteous shamelessness in your fraudulent activities – to put it colloquially, you have something of a brass neck, Miss Gwinnett.”

As part of her fraud, Gwinnett made a series of false accusations against Green’s stepdaughter and adopted grandson, including theft and neglect, before she received power of attorney.

Gwinnett used Green’s money to fund an extravagant lifestyle – she bought a £22,500 car and enjoyed expensive beauty and Botox treatments.

Judge Maher added: “I sincerely hope that Ms Gwinnett is extradited back to the UK to serve her sentence for these egregious crimes.

“That this accused is allowed to remain in Tenerife is an affront to justice and the rule of law.”
