The warning comes after a woman was killed and another woman was seriously injured in separate incidents over the weekend.
Police said the 30-year-old woman was riding a scooter on July 3 in the area of Venables Street and Commercial Drive at 10 a.m. when she collided with the side of a car.
The woman, who was not wearing a helmet, hit her head on the ground and was conscious when she was taken to hospital, but died from her injuries on July 11.

“Neither victim was wearing a helmet while riding,” said Sgt. Adam Donaldson of the Vancouver Police Department said.
“In both cases, the helmet may not have prevented the collision, but it may have significantly reduced the severity of the injuries. Please be sure to wear a properly fitting helmet and ensure it is securely fastened.”

Section 19 of the Electric Scooter Pilot Regulations of the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act requires operators to wear a bicycle helmet that meets the requirements set out in section 184(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act.
Police are also concerned about irresponsible scooter drivers, with videos posted online of Lime scooters speeding through the Vancouver Safeway and the Pacific Center mall.
In a statement to Global News, the Lime Scoot Boyz said what they are showing is not a prank; these are just people having fun.
“No one’s life was in any way in danger in these videos,” they said. “Of course, this is unusual, but we have never acted quickly or gotten out of control.”
They said they encourage everyone to travel safely.
