Nick Woltemade left Stuttgart for Newcastle United last summer after a long transfer saga. The DFB star initially began his dream at a top Premier League club, but his form dipped at the turn of the year, which the striker has not been able to fully overcome until now. Thus, the next transfer could take place in the summer.
According to online portal Football Insider, citing its own information, Nick Woltemade is “most likely” to leave the island again after just a year at Newcastle United. Accordingly, the transfer duel between Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund looms at the disposal of the tall striker, who actually has a contract with the Magpies until 2031.
There are “increasing questions” surrounding St James’ Park as to whether the ex-Stuttgart man has what it takes to make a name for himself in the Premier League. It is unlikely that Woltemade, who has recently been linked with Aston Villa, among others, is seeking a move to the English elite league, Football Insider’s report continues.
Woltemade transfer likely to be difficult for BVB
Caught Offside recently reported on the German World Championship driver’s upcoming farewell. Citing unnamed sources familiar with the situation, it is claimed that disagreements have arisen between Woltemade and coach Eddie Howe over the German’s role in the tactical system. Voltemade regularly played behind the strikers, rather than in front of the forwards as he had previously done.
“However, some experts continued to judge me as a striker. Then they said: Why does Nick score so few goals? Why doesn’t he give more assists? Those were the wrong questions and I didn’t think they were entirely fair,” the striker recently openly criticized criticism of his numbers in an interview with Stern. Does this mean the next change in the air will follow?
For BVB in particular, a €65 million transfer fee is likely to be an insurmountable obstacle. For there to be any serious push, Dortmund would likely have to sell a top-flight star first.
