New rumors of Jaylen Brown in trade to Celtics, 'soliciting offers' from 8-10 teams in NBA free agency

There are about 10 teams potentially interested in trading for Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday. First take.

“Sources tell me that the Celtics have actually started shopping Jaylen Brown aggressively, collecting offers from eight to 10 teams over the last few days,” Charania said.

Charania added that the Celtics were “asking some teams for at least four first-round picks.”

Charania added that it was the Celtics’ decision to acquire Brown, who did not request a trade.

The news follows a report from Sam Amick of The Athletic on Tuesday, in which Amick reported that the Celtics found that interest in Brown was “far from the level” the team had hoped for.

According to Amick, the Portland Trail Blazers had some interest in Brown but weren’t even close to the Celtics’ asking price.

He also expressed doubt about previous reports of interest from the Denver Nuggets and Brooklyn Nets.

Mark Stein and Jake Fisher of The Stein Line similarly dismissed reports of interest from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Michael Scotto of HoopsHype recently named the Toronto Raptors, Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks among other teams potentially interested in Brown. NBA insider Chris Mannix named the Cleveland Cavaliers as another possible landing spot.

The Celtics previously offered Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks along with two first-round picks as part of a package for Giannis Antetokounmpo, ESPN’s Shams Charania reports. Instead, the Bucks decided to send Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.

It was the second time the Celtics offered Brown in exchange for a star player, Charania noted. The team also offered to send Brown to the Brooklyn Nets as part of the proposed Kevin Durant deal in 2022.

The Celtics are adding to their roster in free agency despite the uncertainty surrounding Brown’s future. This includes acquiring veteran point guard Mike Conley and signing New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson.

Brown is signed for three more seasons, starting at a $57 million cap hit in 2026-27. He is eligible to sign a two-year contract extension worth $141.9 million in July.
