Matthew McConaughey celebrates Woody Harrelson's birthday, "Brothers"

Harrelson turned 65 on Thursday, and McConaughey marked the occasion with an Instagram post that seemed to hint at the couple’s new comedy, Brothers.

“From another mother? Happy birthday brother,” McConaughey wrote. And happy birthday from us, Woody.

The signature seems especially fitting for Brothers, the highly anticipated Apple TV+ comedy starring longtime collaborators that has been filmed extensively throughout Austin.

The eight-episode series follows the fictional versions of McConaughey and Harrelson as they attempt to live together with their families on McConaughey’s ranch in Texas, where decades of friendship collide with everyday chaos at home. The project reunites the actors more than a decade after they starred together in the first season of HBO’s True Detective.

Apple TV+ recently announced that Brothers will premiere on September 23rd.

It was hard for Austinites to miss this series.

Throughout 2025, McConaughey and Harrelson have turned the city into their film set, drawing crowds everywhere from Auditorium Shores to Congress Avenue. Residents have spotted the duo traveling around Austin in pickup trucks, filming scenes in matching blue cowboy outfits and appearing at recognizable local landmarks.

Now, after months of celebrity sightings and filming around the city, Austinites will finally be able to see those familiar streets and settings on screen when “Brothers” debuts this fall.
