Lou Koller, frontman of Sick of It All, has died. The singer fought adenocarcinoma cancer.
The group announced his death Friday in a social media post. “It is with incredible sadness that we inform our global hardcore family of the passing of our brother Lou Collier. The level of loss we feel at this time is staggering,” wrote the band, who noted that this year would have marked the 40th anniversary of Sick of It All together. The singer’s age and date of death are not immediately known.
His bandmates praised Koller’s “spiritual relationships, dedication and enthusiasm,” which remained “consistent over the years.” “We have lost a beloved friend and iconic frontman,” they continued. “Lou had the power to lift everyone’s spirits at our shows with his smile and sarcastic comments, and he won over people wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world.”

In 1986, Lou and his brother Pete Koller formed the band Sick of It All in Queens, New York, along with drummer Armand Majidi. The group released their debut album. Blood, sweat and no tearsin 1989 and thanks to constant touring they became one of the most famous and visible hardcore bands in New York. Sick of It All, which has included bassist Craig Setari since 1993, have released their latest album, Wake up the Sleeping Dragon! – in 2018 and has continued his touring schedule since then.
In a statement, the group expressed gratitude to those who donated to Lu’s medical fund while he battled the disease. “His battle is over and he can finally rest,” they wrote. “I hope he can still see and feel the wonderful, positive mark he left on the world.”
