Forest fire breaks out in Chilliwack River Valley

A wildfire broke out in the Chilliwack River Valley on Wednesday.
The call to the Chilliwack River Valley Fire Department came in around 1:20 p.m. on July 22.
The fire was reported to be over a “substantially large area” and occurred several kilometers from the Ford Mountain Correctional Center. He was heading toward the rehabilitation center east of the prison.
When the first crew arrived on scene, they initially said the fire was 100 by 100 feet in size, and then, about 10 minutes later, said it was 500 by 1,000 feet in size and was spreading through the trees.
Chilliwack Fire Department tanker truck crews were called to help fight the wildfire.
The fire was also reported to the BC Wildfire Service and a helicopter from Hope arrived on scene around 2 p.m. A second helicopter was also brought in.
According to a social media post, one person had to climb down a mountain where there was cell service to call 911 to report the fire.
