Haute-Garonne is canceling fireworks displays and balls on July 14 in about fifteen municipalities, including Cugnot and Muret, due to fire risks associated with the heat wave. Prefect Fabrice Rigoulet-Rose also prohibits the possession of mortars until 6 a.m. on July 15th. Pyrotechnic shows are held in Toulouse and Saint-Gaudens. What do we know?
Due to the constant risk of fire caused by the heat wave, many municipalities in Haute-Garonne have decided to cancel their celebrations. This is especially true in Cugnot, Muret, Pibrac, Villemoure, Lonaga, Escalquin, Plaisance du Tache, Merville, Riom, Granada, Leguevin, Seysse and Carbonne, where all National Day events, including the traditional firemen’s ball, will not take place.

In Sintegabelle, the fire brigade also announced the cancellation of fireworks displays. The rest of the festivities, however, will continue: residents will be able to enjoy fishing and petanque competitions, games for children, a snack bar, a casserole, a fireman’s ball, and the semi-final broadcast on a huge screen. Finally, the same fate befell the July 13 celebrations in Hauterive.
The prefect introduced bans related to the shooting of fireworks mortars
“The meteorological context, characterized by the persistence of a heat wave with an increase in the number of forest fires, particularly mobilizes emergency services, whose operational capacity must be preserved as much as possible,” said Fabrice Rigoulet-Rose, prefect of Haute-Garonne. Therefore, the government official prohibited “the purchase, sale, storage, transportation and use of fireworks of categories F2 and F3 on public roads or in public places, in large places where people gather, as well as in their immediate vicinity (…) from 6 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2026, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 15.”

July 14 in Haute-Garonne: no general abolition of fireworks in the department, but super-strict supervision of municipalities that decide to keep them.
This ban primarily concerns the firing of fireworks mortars and does not apply to declared and permitted pyrotechnic displays. Therefore, the municipalities of Toulouse and Saint-Gaudens decided to continue their official events. The lights will be lit as planned on July 13 over the Garonne in the Rose City area and on Lake Sed in the capital of Comminges. In Toulouse, fireworks will also be launched on July 14 at 22:30. over Lake Rainery.
