The disaster unfolded on the hillsides overlooking the Jardin Extraordinaire, a very busy area, especially since the recent opening of the city beach located below, on the banks of the Loire. The park and children’s pool had just closed at the time of the disaster. During this period of extreme heat and particularly dry vegetation, emergency services quickly intervened to contain the fire. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
