A house on A Street in Pristina, which authorities said was at high risk of collapse, was demolished on Thursday. The family who lived there said they would now let justice take its course.
The demolition was due to take place on Tuesday but was delayed after the building’s owner, Farooq McHuni, refused to vacate the premises.

McHuni and his wife have always opposed the demolition of their home, claiming that they previously warned the police and the Pristina municipal inspectorate that the construction of new buildings in the area would threaten the stability of their home. They demanded compensation before demolition.
During the demolition, Farouk Shkipe’s wife Berisha-Maxhoney told the media that what was happening was a great injustice, while expressing her belief in justice.
“I have been condemning this situation for a year now. Everyone knows the truth about me. What is happening today is a gross injustice. The right to housing is guaranteed by law and the Constitution. Today this right has been violated. From now on, I rely on justice. I am confident in justice,” she said.
Pristina Mayor Perparim Rama responded to the issue a day ago, saying that the building was built without permission and is located on municipal land.

Citizens are demanding an assessment and compensation for the collapsed houses on A Street.
Families living in buildings in the area were evacuated two years ago due to work on Route A and the risk of landslides, Rama said.
“Although these buildings were built without permission on municipal land, the municipality has covered and continues to cover the rental costs of the evacuated families. We request the concerned person not to put his life or the lives of our teams in danger by entering this area, which remains dangerous due to the work and which belongs to the municipality. I agree with those who argue that the property is sacred. This land, owned by the municipality, deserves the same respect and protection, in accordance with the law,” Rama said.
The house was damaged during construction work to open Route A.
