ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Yellow Warning continues into the holiday weekend as we track multiple storm cycles. By this point, the intense heat is behind us, but our attention turns to the storms. A group of gusty storms will move through this evening followed by a lull of drier, calmer weather during the first half of the night. Then another group of storms will arrive after midnight. Despite the middle of the night, a few stronger storms with gusty winds are possible. Don’t be surprised if thunder and lightning wake you up.

There will also be a few showers and storms on Saturday. The greatest chance of severe storms is in the Finger Lakes region, but everyone has a good chance of a storm or two. So keep the First Alert Weather app handy. You can check the radar and get updates straight from our weather team. If you see the sky getting dark and hear thunder, you’ll want to find some shelter. If all goes well, most of the rain and storms will be south of our area by this evening, meaning we should be dry for the fireworks (fingers crossed!). This is a complex forecast in terms of timing, so be sure to check back for updates.

On Sunday there will be short-term rains, mainly in the south of our region. But some rainy weather may try to sneak in later in the day. Monday will be rainy at times with thunderstorms before improving and calm weather for much of next week.
