First-graders at a primary school in Karlsruhe had to work together to clean up a pile of a classmate’s faeces in the toilet as a collective punishment. The Karlsruhe regional council confirmed the incident and criticized the teacher.
Dads’ report: Boys had to pick up poop
According to the Badische Neuesten Nachrichten newspaper, each of the six- and seven-year-old boys had to collect part of the stool with a piece of toilet paper and throw it into the toilet. A sort of punishment for everyone after the person who actually caused it didn’t come forward when the teacher asked. The newspaper reported this with reference to two fathers of elementary school students.
The teacher reportedly forced elementary school students
According to a spokeswoman for the Karlsruhe regional council, the incident occurred while the primary school class was attending a forestry class. Upon exiting, it was discovered that the toilet was dirty.
The accompanying teacher, along with the male students, then cleaned up the dirt with toilet paper.
Complaint to a supervisory authority after collective punishment
The responsible school supervisor criticized this approach and made this clear to the school. The regional council also received a supervisory complaint against this teacher.
The department said the complaint is currently being considered. It may be rejected as unfounded. However, all this can end with a warning or reprimand if a “violation of official duties” is discovered.
