Mid-season draftee Liam Puncher will make his AFL debut this Saturday afternoon when Collingwood travel to the Gold Coast to take on the SUNS.

The news was announced to the playing group during the week’s main training session on Thursday afternoon as the team trained in Southport.

Having arrived at the club just over a month ago, the defender has impressed in four VFL matches in black and white and has earned his chance.

Originally a member of the Sydney Swans Academy team, Puncher was selected from SANFL side Woodville-West Torrens in May’s mid-season draft.

Puncher initially moved to South Australia from New South Wales to play for Sturt, where he played alongside young midfielder Angus Anderson, before switching clubs at the end of 2024.

The 22-year-old averaged 11 assists and 5.5 points in four VFL matches for the Pies, excelling in his key defensive role.

His first chance at the top level came in the crunch clash with the SUNS, who sit one place below the Pies in 10th place in the table.
