A member of Vice President J.D. Vance’s security detail is being investigated on charges related to an alleged news leak, the U.S. Secret Service said Thursday.

Anthony Guglielmi, a Secret Service spokesman, said the security member faces an internal investigation and potential criminal investigation on charges related to violations of “operational and information security.”

“While we will not comment on the specifics of this matter, one principle is clear: any behavior that potentially threatens the safety of a protected person will not be tolerated,” Guglielmi said in a statement.

The department has not identified the defendant.

The Secret Service said the investigation stems from an MS NOW report last week that said some Secret Service agents privately expressed frustration over last-minute travel requests from Vance and his family.

Vance’s office referred questions to the Secret Service.

Vance and his wife Usha live at the US Naval Observatory Vice President’s Residence with their young children.

The couple welcomed their fourth child, Alec Neal Vance, on Sunday, the first child born to a sitting vice president in more than 150 years. He was joined by older siblings Ewen, 9; Vivek, 6; and Mirabelle, 4.
