Dansby Swanson hit 2 of the Chicago Cubs' 5 home runs in the 9–7 win.

Dansby Swanson hit two of Chicago’s five home runs and the Cubs earned their fourth straight victory with a 9-7 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday at Wrigley Field.

Alex Bregman, Michael Bush and Pete Crow-Armstrong added home runs to help the Cubs win for the 10th time in 12 games.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two home runs and Manny Machado and Gavin Sheets also went deep as the Padres lost their fourth straight after a four-game winning streak.

Swanson hit a solo home run off J.P. Sears (1-1) in the second inning to give the Cubs the lead for good, then added a double off Ron Marinaccio in the fifth. He finished 3-for-4 in his second game with multiple home runs in less than a week, hitting two in the first game of a doubleheader at the New York Mets on June 24.

Javier Asad gave up Sheets’ three-run home run and Tatis’ second single in the eighth to make it a two-run game, but the Padres couldn’t get any closer. Ryan Rolison made his first save of the final.

Matthew Boyd (3-1) gave up both Padre home runs in the first five innings, giving up three runs and eight hits while striking out two.

Tatis drove the ball forward and knocked Boyd’s fifth pitch through the left field bleachers at Waveland Avenue before the Cubs answered in the bottom of the inning when Seiya Suzuki scored on Carson Kelly’s RBI single.

Bregman moved up two spots behind Swanson and hit a three-run home run in the second. Machado drove in two with his 16th home run in the third. Bush hit a single, Ian Happ singled to chase Sears in the fifth, and Swanson greeted Marinaccio with his 13th home run.

Crowe-Armstrong added his 18th hit of the year – and 11th in June – an inning later.

Sears, making his second start of the season, gave up eight hits – including the Cubs’ first three home runs – and six earned runs, walking three and striking out four.

The air temperature was 92 degrees and the first pitch featured a 19 mph wind in which the teams combined for 26 hits and nine home runs.
