New Delhi. In the world of cricket, when a young player gets the opportunity to wear the jersey of his national team, it is the result of years of hard work. All-rounder James Coles, who has consistently performed brilliantly at home, has been called up to the England ODI squad for the first time. Who is James Coles who has proven his talent at a very young age and is now knocking on the door of the England senior team?
James Coles’s journey is nothing less than a movie plot. He embodies Sussex’s player development partnership with the Oxfordshire Cricket Board. He completed his studies at Magdalen College, Oxford. Coles proved at a very young age that he is a long racehorse. He made his first-class debut for Sussex aged just 16 years and 157 days. When he got his chance in the Bob Willis Trophy against Surrey at the Oval, he became the youngest first-class debutant in Sussex history.
James Coles has been named in the ODI squad for the first time.
Already in his debut match, he showed the world what potential he has. Batting at number 6, he scored 21 runs, but it was his bowling that did the real magic. In his very first match, Coles showed the way to the pavilion for established players such as Rory Burns, Ben Fox and Jamie Smith and took 3 wickets for 35 runs in the match.
Journey from Under-19s to England Lions

For this brilliant performance he was rewarded with a place in the England Lions team. Coles made his debut for the England Lions in the four-day match against India A.
He also improved his T20 performance significantly in the subsequent season. He was instrumental in bringing Sussex into Blast Fifty Days. The Southern Brave then included him in their team as a wildcard player for the Hundred tournament.
