Adam Ramsay-Petey completed the 100m breaststroke with the fastest time of any swimmer in his first event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
He won the final heat in 59.46 seconds – one tenth faster than Australian rival Sam Williamson in heat five.
Ramsay-Petey’s 18-year-old GB teammate Philip Nowacki, who competes for Jersey at the Commonwealth Games, was third fastest.
Peaty-Ramsay, 31, is chasing a fifth Commonwealth gold in Glasgow, 12 years after winning two at the 2014 Glasgow Games.
The 100m breaststroke has always been his main event – he won Olympic silver in the 100m in Paris in 2024 after a difficult preparation, including a break to protect his mental health – but he decided to compete in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles after the 50m was added.
Peaty will also compete in the Commonwealth 50m in Glasgow.
He returns to the pool for the 100m semi-finals on Friday night. Final on Saturday.
