Dom Taylor, the chef who won Netflix Five Star Chefdied. He was 44.

It was Taylor’s restaurant, The Good Front Room, that confirmed the “sudden death” of the founder.

“Dom was a visionary whose bold and joyful approach to celebrating the Caribbean cuisine of his childhood brought a fresh and exciting voice to the London restaurant scene,” a statement on the website said. “His passion, talent and generosity touched so many people, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him and tasting his food.”

The statement continues: “He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family, friends and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time. We ask everyone to respect the privacy of Dom’s loved ones at this time.”

The restaurant said they will remain open to “honor the Maison’s legacy and continue the work he is so passionate about.”

Chef Taylor has won the only season of the 2023 Netflix cooking competition. Five Star Chef with his family by his side, celebrating the moment.

Ravneet Gill, who was a judge on the competition series, said of Chef Taylor’s death: “He captivated us from the moment he appeared before us. He had a real sparkle in his eyes. He was warm, kind and incredibly talented. Dom cooked from the heart and it was something you could taste. He was on the cusp of many exciting things.”

Fellow judge Mike Reid also paid tribute to Chef Taylor following the news of his death, saying: “Taylor’s house was one of the good ones.”

“What he built with The Good Front Room was more than just a restaurant. It was his legacy on a plate,” Reed added. “He brought Caribbean cuisine where it had never been in this country, and he did it his way. He was warm, funny and completely unpretentious about his talent.”
