Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube Officially Set for 24 Jump Street with 2027 Release Date
The Jump Street franchise is officially returning. Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Ice Cube have all signed on for 24 Jump Street, which is now targeting a theatrical release on December 10, 2027, according to Variety. The announcement comes thirteen years after 22 Jump Street hit theaters and fifteen years after the franchise-launcher 21 Jump Street first introduced audiences to the undercover buddy-cop dynamic that became a surprise comedy hit.
The Returning Trio and the Long Wait
All three lead actors have formally committed to the project, signaling that the franchise’s core duo — Tatum as Jenko and Hill as Schmidt — remains intact alongside Ice Cube as their commanding officer Captain Dickson. The film is based on the 1987–1991 Fox television crime drama that originally starred Johnny Depp.
The gap between installments has been notable. 22 Jump Street arrived in 2014, and since then, plans for a third film have bounced around Hollywood with no small amount of skepticism — particularly from Tatum himself.
Producer Neal H. Moritz Spurs Renewed Interest
Producer Neal H. Moritz first teased the project in an Instagram post last year, which led to reports in June that the three actors were in negotiations. Those negotiations appear to have concluded successfully, with all parties now officially on board.
Last year, Tatum told Variety that he doubted 24 Jump Street would ever materialize, calling the script the “best” he had read from the franchise but citing financial and logistical hurdles.
“I get asked more about ‘Jump Street 3’ than any other movie on the face of the planet that I’ve ever done,” Tatum said. “I don’t think it’ll ever happen. The problem is the overhead. It would cost as much as the actual budget of the film — if not more — because of all the producers involved. It’s just too top-heavy.”
What This Means for the Franchise
Tatum’s previous comments highlighted a real industry challenge: the sprawling producer structure behind the Jump Street films made a third installment financially complicated. The fact that all key parties have now signed on suggests those obstacles may have been resolved — or at least negotiated to a workable point.
A December 2027 release slots the film into the competitive holiday season, a strategic choice that aligns with the franchise’s comedic, broad-appeal formula. Whether audiences still respond to the Jenko-Schmidt dynamic nearly a decade after 22 Jump Street remains an open question, but the official greenlight confirms that studios believe there is still life in the concept.
