Brad Pitt's children, Zahara and Maddox, have placed advertisements in newspapers calling for the word "Pitt" to be officially removed from the surname.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children Zahara and Maddox have placed advertisements in newspapers as the next step in officially dropping their father’s last name.

Court documents obtained by Page Six on Monday show that Zahara, 21, published her petition asking for the actor’s last name to be withheld in the Los Angeles Daily Journal once a week for four straight weeks.

The statement said her advertisement was published in the newspaper on June 16, June 23, June 30 and July 7.

The newspaper ad also encourages anyone who opposes the change to submit a written objection before the final hearing.

Zahara has a court hearing scheduled for September 28, at which the judge will make a decision on the petition. If no one objects, the judge may approve the motion.

As for Maddox, court documents obtained by Page Six show the 24-year-old’s petition was published in the same publication as his sister’s – on June 10, June 17, June 24 and July 1.

Public publication of a petition in a newspaper is one of the required hurdles in California for a legal name change.

As Page Six previously reported, last month Zahara legally asked to be called Zahara Jolie instead of Zahara Jolie-Pitt.

She also dropped her father’s last name when she graduated from Spelman College in May.

When she walked on stage to receive her diploma, she was announced as Zahara Marley Jolie.

Maddox made the same request – changing his name from Chivan Jolie-Pitt’s Maddox to Maddox.
Chivan Jolie – in May, calling the reasons “personal”.

In February, he unofficially dropped his father’s last name from the credits for his work on his mother’s latest film, Haute Couture.

In 2021, Us Weekly reported that Maddox “does not use Pitt as his last name on illegal documents and instead uses Jolie,” while noting that the Maleficent actress “does not support” her son’s decision to do so.

In 2024, their youngest daughter Vivienne also criticized her father while working with her mother on the Broadway adaptation of The Outsiders.

At the time, the show’s poster listed her name as “Vivienne Jolie.”

Their daughter Shiloh was the first of the family to go public, dropping Pitt from her last name on her 18th birthday.

The teenager “hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself,” Entertainment Tonight reported in June 2024.

Last month, Page Six exclusively revealed that their son Pax remains close to Pitt despite his difficult family situation.

Despite Pax’s close relationship with members of his father’s family, he “doesn’t have much of a relationship with Brad,” a second source exclusively told Us.
