Today at San Diego Comic-Con, director Ryan Coogler took the stage to announce that not only Black Panther 3 will be released in theaters on December 15, 2028, but David Johnson will play T’Challa’s adult son, who was introduced at the end of the film. Wakanda forever.
In the new film, T’Challa comes of age while looking at the crown of Wakanda. Coogler also revealed on stage that BP3 will be shot entirely on larger format celluloid film, a first for the MCU.
Denzel Washington is also part of the cast, as previously announced.
First Black Panther grossed $1.3 billion in 2018 and won three Oscars. This picture introduced Chadwick Boseman as a star as T’Challa, the leader of Wakanda and the world’s superhero. Jonsson’s last two films were from last year. Long walkdirected by Francis Lawrence, 2024 Alien: Romulus by Fede Alvarez – gave presentations in Hall H while keeping a star in orbit at the San Diego Convention Center. Coogler introduced Jonsson by mentioning Long walkin which the actor starred alongside Cooper Hoffman. Based on the book by Stephen King, the film stars two young men who form an unlikely friendship while literally walking towards death.
Black Panther actors Letitia Wright and Winston Duke also joined Coogler, Feige and Jonsson on stage. Jonsson’s character, Toussaint, aka T’Challa II, was introduced by Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia in Black Panther: Wakanda post-credits scene. Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” then played during the credits.
Johnson also appeared as Gus Saki in the HBO series. Industry and played Home in Rye Lane (2023).
