Bengali actor Srilekha Mitra found herself in trouble with the law after participating in a student protest in Kolkata on Friday. Complaints have been lodged against the actress at several police stations, alleging that she has used the distasteful image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
BJP leader Keya Ghosh lodged a complaint against Mitra at the Anandapur police station on Sunday. Moreover, reports indicate that complaints have been lodged against her at various police stations in many districts, including the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station.
“A complaint has been filed against actress Srilekha Mitra for displaying an offensive poster against the Prime Minister. This complaint was filed due to insulting the Prime Minister of the country. Srilekha Mitra should be arrested as soon as possible,” Ghosh said.
People gathered on the streets of Kolkata on Friday to protest against leakage of NEET questions and demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Mitra also joined the protest where she was allegedly photographed holding a poster with a derogatory picture of Prime Minister Modi.
The complaints were filed under Sections 352 (provocation with intent to cause breach of peace), 353 (public support of provocative conduct) and 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“If you want to arrest me, then arrest me; if you want to send me to the gallows, then send me to the gallows. I believe there will be a movement against this too,” Mitra said in a video message on her social media page following the allegations.
