Baron Corbin returned to WWE two years later during “WWE SmackDown”, stopping Carmelo Hayes vs. Trick Williams and setting his sights on the United States Championship.
Williams was reacquainted with WWE NXT nemesis Hayes in a non-title match, with it being speculated that Hayes could earn a shot at the WWE United States Championship if he defeated the champion.
It looked like he was well on his way to it after a tough contest, climbing the ropes in search of Nothing But the Net. But then Corbin appeared on the apron, staring at Hayes for several seconds before throwing him off the ropes, resulting in a disqualification.
Corbin also attacked Williams after the bell, taking the US title belt and ending the segment. The title is currently the only singles title Corbin has held in WWE, having held it for 70 days in 2017.
He otherwise won the NXT Tag Team Championship with Bron Breaker in 2024, winning the blue brand’s Money in the Bank in 2017 but failing to cash in on WWE Champion Jinder Mahal later that year.
