An update has been released on the search for two missing men who were last seen heading towards the beach. A major search and rescue operation was launched after men named Simon and Connor went missing near Haven Holiday Park on Tuesday evening.
They were last seen near a beach near Hafan y Mór, Pwllheli, on the Llyn Peninsula. The pair were believed to be heading towards the coast in inflatable kayaks.
The major search was carried out by police with support from coastguard and RNLI teams.
A Coast Guard statement issued today (Friday) said their involvement in the search was called off yesterday (Thursday).
A spokesman said: “HM Coastguard were called at 12.19pm yesterday (Thursday 23 July) to assist North Wales Police in locating two overdue kayakers in Pwllheli, North Wales.
“Coastguard rescue teams from Crisieth, Abersoch and Llandworg were dispatched, as well as RNLI lifeboats from Crisieth and Abersoch, a HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter and a coastguard aircraft.
“An extensive search was carried out and, having found no trace of the missing persons, they stopped to await further information at around 10:21 p.m.”
In an update today, North Wales Police confirmed two men remain missing and searches continue.
A Haven spokesman said: “We are assisting police with the search.”
