Stefan Mross moderated the show, which will soon be discontinued, for more than 20 years. Now an old friend is speaking out and is optimistic about the future.
The broadcaster announced in March 2026. SWR the end of Always On Sunday – after more than three decades and more than 300 episodes. Stefan Mrosswho has been the face of the Sunday morning show on Erste since 2005, will host the show for the last time in September.
Now he has Andy Borg said what he said. In an interview with Merkur, the pop singer spoke about the imminent end and that he knows something similar from his own experience. Because he moderated “Musikantenstadl” for a long time, until it ended for him in 2015.

Andy Borg had encouraging words for Stefan Mross: “You can take the show away from the host, but you can never take away the people who have taken it into their hearts. This is what I said then, and this is how Stefan will survive it – his fans will carry him.”
And he adds: “I know from my own experience how painful such a farewell is. And also that sometimes when a door closes, something new opens. So I am sure that Stefan Mross will get his chance again.”

SWR justified the end of the Always On Sundays program by citing the strained economic situation. SWR program director Clemens Bratzler spoke about the “painful decision.” A total of 32 relay races will be organized at the outdoor arena in Rust, Baden.
In an interview with t-online in May, Stefan Mross said the news of the end took him by surprise. “I was shocked,” the 50-year-old said. First of all, he was disappointed with the approach of those in charge. “This could have been handled differently. (…) You don’t do anything like that.”
