STAR RAVEN “BUILT IN BUT PHYSICALLY OK” AFTER AUTOMOTIVENESS
Adelaide star defender Josh Worrell was reportedly involved in a car accident on Friday morning.
AFL journalist Tom Morris reports Worrell is “shaken but physically fine” after the crash.
The 25-year-old missed training on Friday as a result but is expected to face the Gold Kop at Adelaide Oval on Saturday evening.

“TAKEN FROM HIS HAND”: SPP MADE FOR THE SEASON
Port Adelaide’s favorite forward Sam Powell-Pepper will miss the rest of the season as he battles mental health issues with back-to-back cruciate ligament injuries in both knees.
Powell-Pepper was suspended for his second SANFL game at quarter-time last weekend due to concerns about wet conditions following an early knee injury.
The 28-year-old has undergone a personalized training program for three to four weeks to boost his confidence with six games remaining in the SANFL campaign.
But Porto coach Josh Carr confirmed the club had made a call to keep Powell-Pepper on ice until the end of 2026, with an eye to next season.
“We totally understand what’s going on with him right now. It’s the middle of winter, the ovals aren’t very good. He hasn’t done any pre-season training. So we’ve taken it out of his hands,” Carr said Friday.
“We’ve had some good discussions over the last couple of days about what that looks like.
“So Pep won’t play again this year and we think the best thing for him to do is get through this year and attack in pre-season.”

Powell-Pepper has played 158 AFL games since 2017.
In 2024, while injured, he signed a four-year extension that will last until 2029, a strong show of faith on the part of the club.
“It’s all about getting it right, and those deadlines will set themselves, whether it’s this year (or) next year,” port official Darren Reeves said Thursday.
“It’s not really that important. It’s about making sure he’s 100 percent ready to go.”
“It’s been a difficult couple of years for him. He’s still a young man who still has so much to gain and importance in what we do as a football club.
“We give him every chance to become the best version of himself.”

FLAG COACH ENCOURAGES BOMBERS TO WORK
Melbourne premiership coach Simon Goodwin has joined Nathan Buckley in declining interest in the Essendon job after being floated by Bombers president Andrew Welsh.
Goodwin, the Swans’ director of coaching and performance, has been instrumental in Sydney’s fast-developing transition attack since joining Dean Cox’s team late last year.
This comes after Goodwin was sacked by the Demons in August last year in very unpleasant circumstances.
The veteran boss has stated his desire to one day return to a senior coaching role, but speaking ahead of Thursday night’s game he said it wouldn’t be with the Bombers.
“I think I’ve made it clear that I’m open to some conversations,” Goodwin told AFL Nation radio.
“I’ve had an inquiry and conversation with Andrew Welsh, but that’s not the process I’m going to rely on.
“I’m enjoying my time in Sydney, continuing to develop, getting back into coaching and seeing where it takes me.
“But… it has to feel right for you and for the club, so as we sit here now, I won’t be involved in that process. I’ll continue to develop and hopefully when the right opportunity comes, I’ll take it.”

Goodwin hasn’t given a specific time frame for when he’ll decide to return to the head coaching field, but he knows the opportunity will present itself sooner or later.
“It all comes down to the right opportunity… At some stage I want to go back to being a senior coach and I know that will come at some stage,” he said.
“You’re always tempted, there’s no doubt about it. If you want to get back to it, you tend to start a conversation with anyone.
“I was willing to talk to Welsh about what this opportunity might look like, but there is still some work to be done in this process and at this point, where it is now, I have no intention of pursuing it.”
Essendon are set to meet at least James Heard, Hayden Skipworth, James Kelly, Corey Enright, Jamie Graham and Mark McVeigh in the coming days and weeks as part of their search, while Sydney premiership mentor John Longmire remains tight-lipped about his potential interest in the Bombers.

THE RIDDLE OF DOCKER CHOICE
The battle for Fremantle’s second ruck spot looks as open as ever after Thursday night.
With Luke Jackson clearly holding the Dockers’ number one title, there appears to be competition for his backup.
Cox was included in the squad for the game against the Swans after a couple of appearances in the WAFL with Peel Thunder.
It comes after the Dockers made the decision to lead Sean Darcy at the selection table this week.
He has played just seven games at AFL level this season due to injury.
Coach Justin Longmuir admitted Darcy had not played due to the five-day break between the game against the Swans and last week’s defeat to Greater Western Sydney.
He said if the break had been longer Darcy would have played against the Swans.
But after Cox’s performance against Sydney as Jackson’s deputy, there will be interest in who will line up for the Dockers against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval in Round 19.

Cox, who made several important interceptions in defence, finished with 10 clearances, six points and 10 hits, as well as one of the Dockers’ nine goals in the final season.
“Not a lot of horses on the course,” Longmuir said at his post-race press conference Thursday night.
“Everyone really has to earn their place on the team, don’t they?
“So we have competition for seats, not just in the ruck, we have competition for seats throughout the stadium.
“Jaeger O’Meara, one of our senior players and a leader, has played in the WAFL and outside the team.
“Tonight he got his opportunity, came out and did his job.
“So it’s healthy competition for places. She keeps everyone on their toes and prepares very well.
“Our backpacks are probably a little similar.”
