How long did Spain go without conceding a goal at the World Cup?

Spain conceded their first goal of the 2026 World Cup after Belgium equalized in the quarter-final clash in Los Angeles on Saturday (AEST).

European champions Spain led 1-0 thanks to Fabian Ruiz’s opener in the 30th minute and appeared to be in control before Belgium equalized 11 minutes later.

Described by one commentator on Saturday as “a one-man wrecking machine against the USA”, Charles De Ketelaar restored parity with his third goal in two matches.

It was the first goal Spain conceded at this year’s World Cup in North America, ending a 650-minute run without scoring.

It was also the first goal Spain have conceded at a World Cup since the group stage of the 2022 tournament in Qatar.

“It took something special to break down that stubborn Spanish defence,” former England international Stephen Warnock told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It’s a brilliant moment. De Ketelaar looks at it near the post and it’s a brilliant goal for Belgium.”

Belgium have not won against Spain in their last 11 meetings in all competitions. The last time the Red Devils beat Spain was in the group stage of Euro 1980.
