Morning Live fans will be sad to hear that the show is going on hiatus.

Presenters Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones returned to the BBC studios on Friday (July 10) to bring viewers up to date with the latest events happening across the country.

They were accompanied by gardener Mark Lane, Rip Off Britain’s Louise Minchin, Dr Poonam Krishan and barrister Gary Rycroft. Strictly Come Dancing star Greg Rutherford also appeared in the Strictly Fitness segment.

At the start of the live broadcast, Gethin confirmed that Morning Live would be taking a break and would not be returning any time soon in the summer.

Joking that he wasn’t sitting at the table with his colleagues, Greg said: “What is this all about? This is the last show and I got kicked out.”

Gethin then shared, “Speaking of summer vacation, after today we will be taking a short break.”

It has not yet been confirmed when Morning Live will return to screens, but from next week the show will be replaced by new episodes of Animal Park, which will air directly after BBC Breakfast from 9.30am to 10.15am. The docuseries will also air next Monday (July 20).

Kate Humble and Ben Fogle will celebrate Animal Park’s 25th anniversary next week by revisiting the unforgettable stories of animals and their enduring friendships.

New challenges include meeting hippo families, spotting mischievous meerkats and a heartfelt anniversary surprise from keepers, culminating in an emotional celebration at Longleat Safari Park.

During the week, Kate and Ben will welcome maned wolves to the park for the first time, while tensions rise among the pride following the death of lioness Malaika last year.

News of Morning Live’s hiatus comes after the show was axed this week following the “sad” news of a death.

Live performance on Thursday (July 9) stopped briefly during a report on the health of Dr Ranj Singh as Gethin Jones announced the death of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler.

Gethin said, “Range, we’ll be back with you in a second to talk about insect bites. This morning I heard the latest news. Singer Bonnie Tyler, known for hits including Total Eclipse of the Heart, has died aged 75.”

The host then read a statement from Bonnie’s website, which said: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie passed away unexpectedly last night in a hospital in Portugal as a result of an illness for which she was being treated.”

The statement continued: “We will be releasing another statement shortly, but in the meantime we ask for privacy as we cope with this tragedy.”

Morning Live airs weekdays on BBC One at 9:30am.
