This Thursday, July 9, 2026, around 11:15 a.m. car crashed into a fishing port des Sables-d’Olonne, near the Emmanuel Garnier, opposite the Le Molly Malone bar.

“85-year-old motorist panicked leaving the Indigo fishing port parking lot. He then allegedly stepped on the gas pedal of his automatic car and drove straight. I’m doing this dive into the pool of the fishing port of Sable“, explains Jean-Ed Casses, the elected duty officer.
Three people to help
Three people witnesses to the scene went straight to reliefdriver in diving .
One of these three people is a fisherman and volunteer at the SNSM station in Les Sables-d’Olonne.
Jerome Monnerottalks about the development of events.
“I was leaving the sailors’ parking lot and witnessed this whole scene. I jumped into the water with two gentlemen. The car was still floating. The driver’s side window was open. We tried to pull the gentleman out that way. But his legs got stuck in the steering wheel. Finally we got there after 10-15 minutes. The car sank immediately after it was pulled out of the water.”

Shocked driver inhaled water

Elected official Sablé also elaborates:
“The gentleman was cared for by boatmen on the pontoon until firefighters arrived. He inhaled some water and was in shock.”

According to information from Sand Journalan eighty-year-old man was classified by firefighters as a relative emergency, as well as one of three rescuers . Basically they were taken to hospital Côte de Lumiere to Sables d’Olonne.
Take the car out of the port
Belonging divers intervened to attach parachute buoys to the car so that it rises to the surfaceand what could it be pulled out of the water by tow truck. The port’s pollution control team was ready to intervene if necessary.
