From the beginning of September, the state will impose a fine of 200 Turkish lira for open littering and urination, said Minister of State for Public Works and Urban Development Agnimitra Pal. He also said single-use plastic bags will also be banned during the distribution of protective gear (called Swachh Kabach) to municipal cleaners on Wednesday. Instead, the market will have vending machines selling bags made from fabric, jute or environmentally friendly materials. If someone forgets to take a bag to the market, they can buy the bag at a low price from the machine.
On this day, the municipal minister also said that emphasis is being placed on waste segregation and scientific management. In addition to street cleaning twice a day, garbage will be collected twice a day from various commercial establishments, including hotels, restaurants. On this day, Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari handed over protective equipment to sanitation workers. According to him, this equipment will be given to 50 thousand cleaners and “friends of cleanliness” of the state. The Chief Minister also said that the government is actively committed to protecting the environment. Agnimitra said that within two months, all cleaners in the state will receive this equipment. They will also undergo a free medical examination every three months.
