There are round numbers throughout for the Dodgers, who enter tonight’s game with 60 wins, 30 of them at home, and 10 of those 60 belong to one particular starter, Justin Wrobleski, the chosen offensive option against the Rockies’ lineup on Tuesday. On the plus side, the Rockies have the worst wRC+ in baseball against lefties at 83. The Dodgers are all too aware of the problems of potentially underestimating this offense, both by Wrobleski and especially the bullpen.
In their last two games, the Rockies have shown why they lead every series in baseball since the eighth inning at 126, first coming back to beat the Giants at home 7-6 and then nearly doing the same against the Dodgers on Monday. Of course, the Coors Field factor plays a key role in helping the Rocks score all those late runs, but the danger is present both at home and on the road.
Capable of giving the Dodgers the length they need quite often, Wrobleski will accomplish that mission after two extra innings last night forced the bullpen to work harder than originally planned due to a blown save by Tanner Scott. Speaking of duration, Wrobleski is throwing seven consecutive innings, and if he adds one more, he will reach 100 innings for the season. While it’s too early for this conversation, how the Dodgers handle Wrobleski in the second half will be interesting to watch considering he only threw 118.1 innings between the Majors and Triple-A last year.
