The 2026 Mid-Season Invitational is approaching a decisive turning point in South Korea. With Top Esports and FURIA eliminated, the lower bracket offers a new clash between G2 Esports and T1. This Wednesday, July 8th, one of these two legends will definitely leave the tournament.

Intense duel between LEC and LCK
The main event quickly redistributed the cards in this double elimination bracket. However, G2 Esports started their tournament in the best possible way, picking up a precious victory over Top Esports at the end of a very competitive Bo5 that nevertheless started poorly, proving a real ability to adapt. However, in the semi-finals of the upper bracket, the momentum was suddenly broken at the wall of Hanwha Life Esports. In contrast to the Korean champion, the LEC’s 1 seed suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat, finding itself completely stifled by the enemy’s macro resistance and systematic resource deprivation.
For their part, T1 made an initial mistake against Bilibili Gaming, narrowly losing 2–3 in a particularly tight series. After failing in the first round of the Losers’ Bracket, the Korean team was able to get the job done this Monday, July 6th, logically knocking FURIA out with a clean slate. Should this clean sheet secure their place in the next round, the game against the Brazilians lacks the usual clinical rigor of T1 and they still struggle to fully confirm their overall state of form before crossing swords with the Europeans.
The calendar in this lower bracket accelerates with a busy Wednesday, July 8th. If LYON and Team Secret Whales open the ball in the second round from 5 am, all attention will shift to the head-to-head match at 10 am (approximate time, all depends on the Bo5 that will be played earlier). G2 Esports and T1 have no room for error anymore. The bets are simple and punitive: the loser will be eliminated from MSI 2026, while the winner will continue to race in hopes of reaching the grand finals.
Beyond the overall strategy, this confrontation will crystallize around decisive duels. In the center of the Rift, all attention will be drawn to the eternal confrontation between Caps and Faker. The European mid laner must be sure to take the mechanical advantage, or at least neutralize the pressure from his counterpart, in order to gain priority in the lane. It is this priority that must partly determine the pace in the jungle, where the confrontation promises to be intense. If G2’s jungler can force an aggressive and unpredictable path to support his solo players, the European team will be able to find the openings they need. Conversely, if Oner dictates the pace of the early game, he will put T1 in the chair to reveal his vision of the game and goals.
The topplan will also become a real barometer of the meeting. T1 has not hesitated to play aggressively on the top side, creating a snowball effect, forcing the European structure to be ever vigilant to not see the game slipping away from them in the opening minutes. Obviously, we shouldn’t lose sight of the duel that’s coming up in the bot lane. The South Korean duo are known for their ability to apply suffocating pressure from the early levels, making it easier to capture early dragons. The G2 Esports pair will have to show impeccable durability in the lane stage, or even make an unforeseen draft choice, or else the entire bottom half of the map will collapse before the fifteen-minute mark.
As such, the outcome of this Bo5 will largely be decided in the draft phase, where the battle of flex picks and surprise drafts will be important, as well as strict tempo control early in the game. G2 Esports must rediscover creativity and organized chaos, which are its strengths, in order to shake up the Koreans, who are notoriously uncooperative in overly conventional scenarios. Against HLE, the Europeans showed significant weaknesses in their mid-game transitions, giving way too easily around neutral targets. If they repeat the same mistakes, sanctions will be immediate. In fact, T1 will logically rely on strict sideline management to stretch the map as much as possible and punish the slightest mispositioning by the opponent. If Faker and his comrades manage to lock in their victory conditions and impose their surgical transition pace, the task will prove extremely difficult for G2, which has not won a playoff series against the team since the 2019 season.
