Renata Ford, wife of the late Toronto mayor Rob Ford, has died.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced the news in a statement Monday evening. Renata was the prime minister’s daughter-in-law. She was also the mother of two children.

“My heart breaks for Stephanie and Dougie,” the premier said in a statement.

“They have been through so much at such a young age and losing their mum is incredibly painful. Our whole family is rooting for them. “We ask people to respect their privacy during this very difficult time.”

Renata ran in North Etobicoke for Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada in the 2019 federal election.
